Virtual Program Launch on February 4 – 16th edition of Festival de Casteliers

The 16th edition of Festival de Casteliers will take place from March 3 to 17, 2021. The festival will present intimate shows for small groups of adults and children, with the expressed goal of rediscovering the pleasure of being together and fighting social isolation.

In solidarity with the local artistic community, the festival will present ten shows by Québec puppeteers at the Théâtre Outremont, the Maison internationale des arts de la marionnette (MIAM) and other local venues. The Marionnettes en vitrines! outdoor walkabout exhibition as well as a few new virtual activities will round off the program, for the enjoyment of as many people as possible and no matter what colour zone we may find ourselves in!

Valise Théâtre and Jon Lachlan Stewart, Recipients of the 2020-2021 creative research residency for professional puppeteers from Montréal

Casteliers and the Conseil des arts de Montréal are pleased to announce that Valise Théâtre and Jon Lachlan Stewart have been selected for the 2020-2021 Creative research residency for professional puppeteers from Montréal. With the goal of developing puppetry arts and in the context of the COVID-19 crisis, this residency will give the artists the opportunity to work on their respective projects and to take advantage of the specialized equipment and resources on hand at the Maison internationale des arts de la marionnette (MIAM–International House of Puppetry Arts).

Never too old for puppet theatre!: Shadow puppet theatre workshop for seniors

This fall, Casteliers is organizing an online Zoom workshop for Outremont seniors and their family or friends. The Never too young or too old for puppet theatre! workshop offers seniors 60 years + the opportunity to learn the basics of shadow theatre, build their very own silhouettes, and contribute to the staging of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, in an adaptation by playwright Jan Decorte.

Call for Proposals: Creative research residency for professional puppeteers from Montréal

With the goal of developing puppetry and in the context of the COVID-19, Casteliers and the Montreal Arts Council (Conseil des arts de Montréal-CAM) are partnering to offer two (2) creative residency for professional puppeteers. The residencies will each last for twenty-one (21) days. They will take place at the Maison Internationale des arts de la marionnette (MIAM) between October 2020 and February 2021.

Presented in collaboration with Arrondissement d’Outremont, Casteliers en cavale will revive the arts of puppetry in August! Spontaneous performances will take place in different parks and avenues of Outremont. In order to amaze the public and avoid gatherings, the schedule and locations must remain secret… Stay tuned!

Program Now Available: 15th Festival de Casteliers

Casteliers has launched its program for the 15th Festival de Casteliers, an exciting international event devoted to puppetry arts, to be held from March 4 to 8, 2020. For this anniversary edition, the Festival de Casteliers will host prestigious companies from China, Greece, Finland, Belgium, England and France, as well as puppeteers from Vancouver and Québec.
