At the crossroads of the museum and the laboratory, this show invites the audience to a journey towards the infinitely small, with humour and visual poetry. Quantum physics is complex, paradoxical, sometimes frustrating in its incomprehensibility. But it is also the heart, often strange or disturbing, yet essential, of our world. Rebellion of the minuscule is a voyage into the depths of the atoms that make up everything that surrounds us. An object theatre show where artworks are built live. Where the images’ low tech magic magnifies the sense of vertigo, as we move between the known and the unknown, certainty and the void, light and matter.

The 7 p.m. performance on Tuesday, October 29th will be followed by a talkback with social scientists from the Université de Montréal Faculty of Arts and Science, as part of Théâtre Outremont‘s Perspectives series.*

Since 2015, Théatre du Renard has been exploring the ideas that have transformed our view of reality: astrophysics, ecology, philosophy. Science allows us to explore artistic terrain that remains largely unexplored. It heightens our awareness. It allows us to see, all of a sudden, what had been there all along. The company skilfully combines the poetry and humour of object theatre with the art of cross-disciplinary creation. As artists, we turn scientific discoveries into stories of sensitive exploration.

* La série Perspectives au Théâtre Outremont se veut une plateforme pour les artistes abordant des sujets importants et actuels, afin de favoriser le dialogue et la compréhension mutuelle au sein du public. En partenariat avec la Faculté des arts et des sciences de l’Université de Montréal, cette initiative vise à développer l’esprit critique et l’intérêt artistique. Des rencontres auront lieu après chaque spectacle pour créer des échanges entre les artistes et des experts académiques. Ce projet met l’accent sur la vulgarisation scientifique à travers l’art, tout en renforçant les liens entre la recherche universitaire et la communauté.
