Over the past 15 years, Casteliers has presented outstanding puppet shows by local and international artists for adult and family audiences. Our 2019-2020 season will celebrate this important anniversary by presenting seven shows by artists from Belgium, the United States and Qu\u00e9bec, as well a 2020 Festival de Casteliers that will leave its mark in our history.<\/p>\n
In October, Casteliers is happy to announce it is renewing its partnership with\u00a0Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Aux \u00c9curies\u00a0to present\u00a0CHIMPANZEE<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by American artist Nick Lehane. This show without words premiered in New York in the spring of 2019 and is based on actual events. It tells the story of a lone, aging female as she looks back at the pieces of her childhood spent with a human family. In November, Casteliers, along with another long-time partner,\u00a0Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Outremont\u00a0present\u00a0R\u00c9CIT D’UNE CHAUSSURE<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by the Libre Course theatre company (Montr\u00e9al). In order to create this charming object theatre show, the company artists scoured the city in search of stories about shoes and the people who wear them.<\/p>\n In December, three shows will be presented at the Maison internationale des arts de la marionnette\u00a0(International House of Puppetry Arts – MIAM). To start the month off, pre-K children are invited on a journey of discovery of the world of books as objects and vectors of history with\u00a0CECI N\u2019EST PAS UN LIVRE<\/strong><\/em>, a playful musical theatre show by famous Flemish company Spiegel Theater (Belgium). Casteliers will then present\u00a0LE PROJET BECKETT<\/strong><\/em>, by Tenon Mortaise (Montr\u00e9al), a show inspired by the tragicomic setting of Samuel Beckett\u2019s\u00a0Endgame, combining table top puppetry, actor\u2019s theatre and shadow play. To top off the month, Casteliers invites the whole family to get into the holiday spirit with\u00a0COPEAUX DE NEIGE<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Deux mains (Montr\u00e9al), a fable that tells the story of Saint-Nicolas through the ages and across continents.<\/p>\n March 4 to 8, 2020, the 15th edition of\u00a0Festival de Casteliers<\/strong>\u00a0will showcase artists from France, Finland, Greece, Belgium, Canada and Qu\u00e9bec. Shows and activities for all ages will be presented in Outremont and in various theatres across the city. Celebrations start on January 23, 2020, at the festival’s program launch at the Petit Outremont.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In April, Casteliers and\u00a0Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Outremont\u00a0present\u00a0NORDICIT\u00c9<\/strong><\/em>, a Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Inclin\u00e9 (Laval) and Nordland Visual Theatre (Norway) coproduction. Presented at the 2017 Festival de Casteliers,\u00a0Nordicit\u00e9\u00a0is a quest, a visual poem, where a wandering artist offers an intimate telling of her encounter with the North, and of the feeling of vertigo she experiences as she faces an immensity she is unable to seize. In May, Casteliers is happy to announce its renewed partnership with the\u00a0Petits bonheurs<\/strong>\u00a0festival to present a show especially for toddlers.
