Montr\u00e9al,<\/strong> January 24, 2019<\/strong> \u2500 The 14th <\/sup>Festival de Casteliers\u2019 program is <\/strong>now online. This year\u2019s not-to-be-missed event devoted to puppetry<\/strong> arts will celebrate France<\/strong>, as it welcomes four shows and many French artists, as well as puppeteers from the United States, Canada and Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n

The 2019 program features eleven shows<\/strong> for adults and children, including both internationally acclaimed landmark performances and new works. Kicking off the festival will be <\/strong>[hullu]<\/strong><\/em>,<\/strong> brought to us by Blick Th\u00e9\u00e2tre, a French company that creates wonderous theatre that juggles with reality and make-believe and combines puppets and humans. Montr\u00e9al-based company Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Magasin\u2019s newest show for the whole family, Panique dans le piano!<\/strong><\/em> will top off the festivities.<\/p>\n

Puppets of all kinds \u2013 body puppets, table top puppets, paper puppets, hand puppets and string marionettes \u2013 will transport young and old to wonderful places that will inspire metaphorical and imaginative reflections on our world and its inhabitants. Imagination<\/strong>, madness, difference, wisdom, the life cycle and generational legacy are just some of the themes brilliantly addressed by the participating theatre companies. On top of this exciting program, Festival de Casteliers is also presenting two short pieces<\/strong>, an international roundtable discussion<\/strong> on contemporary issues in puppetry arts, as well as an exhibition<\/strong> marking the 90th<\/sup> anniversary of UNIMA, the international association of puppeteers.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s festival will also be the perfect opportunity to officially inaugurate the Maison internationale des arts de la marionnette (MIAM)<\/strong>! Founded by Casteliers and the Association qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise des marionnettistes (AQM\u2014Qu\u00e9bec Puppeteer Association), this new centre dedicated to creating and presenting works, training, and cultural mediation is a Canadian first and will help promote puppetry arts, both locally and internationally.<\/p>\n

The program also features a caf\u00e9-causerie<\/em>, a creative workshop for the whole family<\/strong>, an international professional networking event and the return of the ever-popular walkabout exhibition Marionnettes en vitrines!<\/strong><\/em> which showcases puppets in shop windows in the Outremont borough and in the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Outremont lobby. This year\u2019s exhibition features puppets by sculptor Claude Rodrigue.<\/p>\n

Casteliers is pleased to team up with first-time partners Studio Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Studio Bizz and the Maison internationale des arts de la marionnette (MIAM) as well as with its long-standing partners: Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Outremont, OBORO, the Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys, the AQM and UNIMA-Canada (the Canadian branch of the international association of puppeteers).<\/p>\n

Casteliers would like to acknowledge the invaluable partnership with the <\/em>Caisse Desjardins des Versants du mont Royal<\/strong>, the<\/em><\/strong> 14th<\/sup> edition\u2019s Official Presenter.
