Lucie Émard’s exhibition Douze petits tableaux offers a tender look at the every day lives of eighteen string marionettes. As if sneaking a peak through the keyhole to their homes, the viewer witnesses intimate moments frozen in time. What are the evening paper headlines? Who is the grandmother in high heels cooking for? What mystery motivates the two women waiting indefinitely for the train to go by? These are only a few of the many stories told by the artist’s solitary and endearing characters.
For the past 25 years, Lucie Émard has been building, exploring and manipulating all kinds of puppets. In 2014, she began creating a series of miniature scenes featuring silicone characters. She has since created an animated short film with a few of these charming characters.
The twelve tableaux are presented to public for the very first time.
